Juanita (Kirkland, Wa.) ATH Salvon Ahmed updated his recruitment as well as what might be changing with is own team this fall.
Juanita head coach Shaun Tarantola resigned earlier this spring, so there was some who wondered what might happen to the program without a leader, however, longtime line coach Lele Te’o has been promoted to head coach and Ahmed feels the transition should be pretty smooth.
“Losing coach ‘T’ was tough, but coach Lele has been there for a long time and he’s our guy,” Ahmed told Northwest Elite Index recently “He’s the one who always did our offseason conditioning stuff and led our workouts, so he’s been with us for a while and I think everyone is pretty happy he got the job.
“I think we’re going to change things up a little bit. We’ve always been a ‘gun’ (shotgun) team and we’ll still do that too, but we’ve been talking a little bit more about going to the Power-I more and going under-center more, so it’s kinda exciting to see where things will go.”
Ahmed is a player who can play multiple positions and, as he did as a sophomore last fall, he’ll line up in no less than four positions and possibly even five.
“I’ll do whatever I have to do to help my team,” Ahmed noted. “I’ve played tailback, slot, wide receiver and corner, but I have also played some safety too, so I’ll do whatever they need me to do.”
With that versatility, Ahmed has drawn the attention of several programs and he has four early offers with more possibly on the horizon.
“My offers right now are from Washington, Washington State, Utah and Montana State, ” Ahmed said. “Oregon has been picking up their interest in me and I’m going to head down there for a visit (June 13th) and then I’ll do the Nike Camp there the next day.
“UCLA has also been talking to me, especially coach (Demetrice) Martin and I’ll visit there on June 24th and I’ll go over to see USC on the 25th.”
While he’s got all of those offers, Ahmed is in no hurry to make an early decision.
“I am not saying I will definitely wait until Signing Day (in February of 2017), but I definitely want to take all of my official visits and I want to make sure I see what coaches are where and how I fit with the program and the school in general,” Ahmed added.
The junior-to-be rushed for close to 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns while hauling in nearly 50 receptions for over 600 yards and seven more scores as a sophomore last season.
