One of the top players in the State of Oregon for the 2015 class is Drew Matthews (6-1 190 15′ WR/DB) of North Bend. He will be a 4A Player of the Year candidate this season on a Bulldog team that has gone (21-3) over the past two years.
Matthews is a three sport athlete and considered one of the top dual threat kids in the region. He has earned 1st team all league honors at DB for the last two seasons, and was an all state athlete on both sides of the ball in 2013 (2nd team WR, Honorable Mention DB).
Drew has phenomenal instincts leading the state in total interceptions covering the last two seasons with 18. As a sophomore he picked off 11 passes which is a record that may stand for awhile among underclassmen. Offensively he caught 45 passes for 1,045 yards and 15 TD’s, helping North reach the state semi finals last year before falling to Cottage Grove 37-34.
Referencing the upcoming season Drew says, “I want to help my team in every single way possible, to become the first group in school history to win a state title”. Adding, “We will do everything it takes to be the best team we can and win the Blue Trophy.”
Matthews has legit size and is one of the top athletes in the state regardless of classification. The Bulldogs are a state title contender this season and Drew is a big reason why. Expect to hear much more from the kids at North and Matthews in the near future.
This article gave me butterflies. I'm proud of you grandson. Can't wait to cheer you and the entire team on to VICTORY. Have a great season.

Knute your son is a baller!! Congratulations!! I do remember, no matter how much smaller Knute was, at the time, he was the majority of the time, more talented then most. I took my share of beatings, from couch football to hoops across the cul-de-sac at the rec center, I could not win! Drew obviously has the Matthews' genetic make-up, athletic, tough, and the spirit of IKAIKA!! Take no prisoners, and have a healthy, championship season!!
