OREGON OFFICIAL NEI 6A/5A RANKINGS
(Jordan Johnson)
6A
1. JESUIT (1-0) H- Union, WA (1-0)
* Jesuit manhandled McMinnville up front and will attempt to do the same to Union. The Crusaders looked very good, but Union is a proud program that won’t go quietly. The challenges will come up front where Union is somewhat young and inexperienced. Union will be all over AJ Glass after he went for 300+ LAST WEEK: W 63-21 @ Mcminnvile
2. SHELDON (1-0) @ #3 Central Cath (1-0) (Ore City HS)
* This will be the game of the week covering the entire NW with two programs that met in last years state semi’s going head to head.. Central will game plan all week for Connor Strahm so expect to see some of Sheldon’s other top athletes get in the mix after Strahm put the team on his back in last weeks comeback win. LAST WEEK: W 35-28 vs #7 Southridge
3. CENTRAL CATH (1-0) H- Sheldon (1-0) (Ore City HS)
* Central is loaded with athletes and Dallin Leavitt will know where Strahm is at all times.. Aidan Wilder will play a big part as this could be the biggest game of his career at the QB position. He will need to capitalize on his outstanding performance from a week ago. LAST WEEK: W 27-9 vs #5 WA Skyview
4. ALOHA (1-0) @ #6 Tigard (1-0)
* Expect the Warriors to use their massive and athletic up front cast on both sides of the ball against a Tigard team that lost three big time lineman from a year ago. Tyner will get plenty of carries this week against a D that isn’t big but maybe the fastest in the state. LAST WEEK: 45-0 vs Thurston
5. LAKE OSWEGO (1-0) H – Centennial (1-0)
* The Lakers will get their opportunity to once again show off their defense after Centennial dropped 49 on Grant last week. The Lakers don’t have the offensive firepower from last year, but their D is super legit..LAST WEEK:W 34-0 @ Olympia
6. TIGARD (1-0) H #4 Aloha (1-0)
* This will be the biggest game Tigard has played in a long time, not counting last years state quarterfinal matchup against Aloha. You can expect the Tigers to hit Tyner every which way doing their best to make statement early. The defense is very quick and will have to do something to counter the strength of the Aloha line..LAST WEEK: W 40-13 vs #10 Canby
7. SOUTHRIDGE (0-1) H- Tualatin (1-0)
* The Skyhawks are young and legit as we state very early in the season. It was impressive showing against one of the top teams in the NW and you can expect the Hawks to feed off the performances of juniors AJ Woodin, Jordan Morgan , and Devin Martinez. The Hawk Coaching staff is as good as any in the state. LAST WEEK: L 28-35 vs #7 Southridge
8. SOUTMEDFORD (1-0) H- Westview (1-0)
* The Panthers played okay in week one, but you know they will just get better as the season progresses. Head Coach Bill Singler always has his guys dialed in and should see an improved Westview team this week..LAST WEEK: W 24-9 @ West Salem
9. CENTURY (1-0) @ #4 5a Mt View (1-0))
* The Jaguars are one of the most exciting teams in the entire region, lead by a monster line that helped the Jags drop 60+ on a good Lincoln team last week. Sam Riddle could be one of the NW’s break out players of the year ( 5 Td passes, 1 rush) They will have their hands full in Bend against the defending 5a state champs..LAST WEEK: W 62-35 vs Century
10. SPRAGUE H- Roseburg (1-0)
* As I said last week the Sprague/Wilsonville matchup was one of the most intriguing in the state. Sprague enters the poll this week as the top team out of the Valley as Devvon Gage showed he was the real deal Holyfield LAST WEEK: W #2 5a Wilsonville 30-20

42. Hillsboro (0-1)
5A
1. MARIST (1-0) H- #3 Sherwood (1-0)
* This will be a huge statement game for the Spartans as they started the season on a high note beating a god Lava Bear team in Bend. Head Coach Frank Geske always has his team overly prepared, and people found out you have to account for Josh Harper and not just Austin Baird. LAST WEEK: W 41-20 @ Bend
2. WILSONVILLE (0-1) H- St. Helens (1-0)
* 6A Sprague is the best team down in the Valley and they showed why. Wilsonville was without QB/S Nick Highberger and Johnny Ragin who missed a couple quarters. As the season continues the Wildcats will show how dominant they can be with Tanner Shipley breaking people off pretty consistently. LAST WEEK: L 20-30 @ 6A Sprague
3. SHERWOOD (1-0) @ #3 Marist (1-0)
* This will be a big test for the Bowmen who blasted a sub par Milwaukie team in week one. Sherwood always reloads but still has a lot of new faces starting so it will be very interesting to see how they handle Marist LAST WEEK: W 52-6 vs Milwaukie
4. MOUNTAIN VIEW (1-0) H- #9 6a Century (1-0)
* The defending 5a State champs will have there hands full with one of the hottest team in the NW, as Century will bring a high profile no huddle offense to town that could pose some serious challenges. LAST WEEK: W 35- 21 @ Lebanon
5. CRESCENT VALLEY (0-1) H- Putnam (0-1)
* I will reserve further judgement on the Raiders after I see them play some Oregon based teams, but the loss of their starting RB Gomez hurts. I don’t see how CV couldn’t be one of the top teams at the 5a level with all of the talent that resides on their roster. They will get a big test this week if Deshawn Stephens returns from his suspension. LAST WEEK: L 17-21 vs Radford, Hawaii (3-0)
6. WEST ALBANY (1-0) H- 6a Lakeridge (1-0)
* This will be one of the most interesting games state wide, as Lakeridge will play much better D then Pendleton and know where LaCoste is at all times. Expect a very close ball game here. LAST WEEK: W 62-35 vs Pendleton
7. CHURCHILL (1-0) H- Liberty (0-1)
* Churchill will blast Liberty and this will be over by half. The Lancers are good, but both of their first two opponents are not good barometers to base anything on LAST WEEK: W 56-21 vs South Eugene
8. BEND (0-1) @ #9 Silverton (1-0)
* The Lava Bears are a good football team lead by QB Jonah Koski and they will battle back. They will need to be well prepared as the Foxes of Silverton will provide a stiff challenge for a Bend team that could not get its running game going last week LAST WEEK: L 20-41 vs Marist
9. SILVERTON (1-0) H- # Bend (0-1)
* The John Mannion lead Silver Foxes did a good job in week one of beating a much improved Springfield team that fought to the end. Expect the Foxes to continue to improve as they are still a young team. LAST WEEK: W 25-21 @ Springfield
10. REDMOND (1-0) @ Madras (1-0)
* The Panthers beat 4a Sweet Home 35-0, and they return 30 seniors and a bunch of all league kids that make them a legit threat in the Intermountain conference. This could be there best year in some time. LAST WEEK: W 35-0 vs Sweet Home
11. Eagle Point (1-0)
12. Putnam (0-1) ** When Deshawn Stephens returns they are a Top 10 team
13. Hood River (1-0)

4A
1. Skyline (1-0) – Everything we expected them to be. Beat a good Bothell team and now will travel to face one of the top teams in Utah, Cottonwood, this coming weekend.
2. Mead (1-0) – Blew out Univeristy 43-10 and looked good doing it. They will face North Central this weekend in another GSL game.
3. Bellarmine Prep (1-0) – The Lions beat a good Peninsula squad 38-14 on Friday, getting solid performances from their star players. This week they will take on what will likely be a motivated Lakes team that lost it’s season opener in a shocker to a rebuilding Woodinville team.
4. Federal Way (1-0) – Federal Way blew out Rogers 41-14, playing their second and third stringers for most of the second half. On Thursday they face Emerald Ridge which started the season 0-1 with a 20-0 loss to Curtis.
5. Issaquah (1-0) – Junior RB Jack Gellatly rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles’ 24-13 win over Interlake. This coming Friday they have a huge game against one of the top 3A teams in the state, Mount Si and it will be on the road.
6. Camas (1-0) – The Papermakers blew out an overmatched Oregon City team 63-20 last week, but this week should have a much tougher test of their mettle while they face off against a very good Canby (Oregon) squad.
7. Bothell (0-1) – When you go on the road and face the top team in the state, it’s hard to drop you too far, especially when you played them tough, losing 33-21. Sophomore Ross Bowers is a legit D-1 quarterback and big things are on the horizon for him. Things don’t get any easier for the Cougars this week as they face Bellevue at home.
8. Skyview (0-1) – The Storm had no answer for a good Central Catholic (Portland), losing 27-9. They will hope for a rebound this week versus Columbia River.
9. Edmonds-Woodway (1-0) – The Warriors used a very strong ground game, led by senior RB Desmond Young, to blow out Everett 42-14. This week they will take on an improving Mountlake Terrace squad.
10. Union (1-0) – Junior RB Leon Siofele carried the Titans to the victory, rushing for 118 yards and four touchdowns in downing Mountain View 35-7. This weekend they will get a much tougher test when they take on nationally-ranked Jesuit of Portland.
Others receiving consideration: Graham-Kapowsin (1-0), Eisenhower (1-0), South Kitsap (1-0), Kentwood (1-0), Kentlake (1-0), Woodinville (1-0), Ferris (1-0)
3A
1. Bellevue (1-0) – The Wolverines represented Washington prep football well beating Trinity (Euless, Tx.) 31-24 in overtime at Memorial Stadium in Seattle in front of over 10,000 fans. This week they face a good Bothell squad who gave Skyline a run for their money last week on the road.
2. O’Dea (1-0) – O’Dea enjoyed some big plays from the likes of Tatum Taylor and Jack Flor and rode those to a ho-hum 37-10 win over Gig Harbor. This week they will play host to a solid Ballard team.
3. Meadowdale (1-0) – Diminutive RB/WR Giavani Shepherd had two big runs for the Mavericks and that led the way to a 28-18 win over a good Kamiak team. This week they will take on Inglemoor at Pop Keeney Stadium on Thursday.
4. Mount Si (1-0) – The Wildcats looked outstanding in a their 30-0 blowout of what should be a good Kennedy squad. This week they will face a stiff test when facing fifth-ranked Issaquah at home.
5. Lakes (0-1) – You just have to believe that head coach Dave Miller and the rest of the Lancers’ staff will have their players motivated for their game against Bellarmine Prep this week after they lost to what seemed to be a rebuilding Woodinville squad.
6. Eastside Catholic (1-0) – Wow! We thought the Crusaders would be pretty good this year, but after their 41-14 thrashing of a good Liberty squad, they could really make some noise in the Metro Mountain Conference this fall. Things don’t get much easier for them this week though as they will “travel” to Eastlake which lost their opener last week.
7. Marysville-Pillchuck (1-0) – The Tomahawks were outstanding in their 42-14 romp over Arlington on Friday. This week they will take on a good Lake Stevens team on the road in a 3A/4A cross-over game.
8. Glacier Peak (1-0) – The Grizzlies are an underrated squad. So underrated, I didn’t even rank them when our first set of rankings came out. That being said, they looked outstanding in their 42-31 win over Lake Stevens last week and this week they will get a test in their rivalry game against Snohomish who lost their opener against Oak Harbor last week.
9. Mercer Island (1-0) – MI got a huge performance from senior QB Brian Higgins who completed 25 of 36 passes for 261 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in their win over Redmond. This week they will travel to take on Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) who is 2-0 after beating a good West Linn (Oregon) team last week 58-20.
10. Timberline (1-0) – The Blazers used a good ground game that totaled over 200 yards and a stout defense to get a hard-fought 20-0 win over River Ridge to open the season. This Friday they will take on Tumwater which was stung in their opener 42-21 by Yelm.
Others receiving consideration: Hanford (1-0), Oak Harbor (1-0), Southridge (1-0), Juanita (1-0), Hazen (1-0), Shelton (1-0)
