(PSU scored big with NW top cover corner Kahlil Dawson 5-9 165 Sr. CB/ATH coming to town) |
Washington State is loaded with talented players this year, and Graham-Kapowsin CB Kahlil Dawson, one of the top cover-corners in the entire Northwest, decided to end the recruiting process when he visited Portland this week…
"I just committed to Portland State," Dawson told Northwest Elite Index shortly after making his decision. "Coach (Nigel) Burton was really excited when I told him. I just really liked the campus and the coaches just sold me and my family on how it was the right fit for me.
"Coach Burton played for the Huskies and he wasn’t a big guy and neither am I, so we actually have the same mentality at that sort a just gelled. It’s just a great day and I’m really excited."
In addition to his bond with the coaches and the direction of the program, Dawson also noted that the location was perfect as well.
"Portland is a great town and it’s far enough away so that I feel like I’m out on my own," Dawson noted. "It’s far away, but it’s not too far, so if I want to go home and see my family, get a home-cooked meal, anything like that, I can just come home on a short trip, so that’s nice too."
In additon to his offer from the Vikings, Dawson also had an offer from Wyoming and was getting increased interest from schools like Washington State, Washington, Idaho, Eastern Washington and Montana.
As a junior this past fall, Dawson wasn’t thrown at much, but he still managed to post 30 tackles to go along with two interceptions and 14 passes defensed. He also contributed 750 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns on offense as well.
Dawson and the rest of his Graham-Kapowsin teammates will start their season on August 30th with a game at Post Falls (Id.) and then will come back to the Puget Sound area to face off against Curtis (University Place, Wa.) the following week on the road.
