(Billy Green 6-2 190 Sr. QB) Kings HS |
It didn’t take long for Kings (Seattle) QB Billy Green to make his decison on where he wanted to play his college football. After throwing for the BYU coaches a couple of weeks ago and earning an offer, the talented signal-caller decided to bring his mom with him to Provo to get her approval and while on campus he made his intentions known.
"I just committed to BYU a little while ago," Green told Northwest Elite Index while waiting at the airport to head back to Seattle. "I just thought about everything and decided it was the right school for me. I threw for them a few weeks back and I was sold on it back then, but I wanted to get my mom down to see the school and meet with the coaches and once she did that, I committed to them.
"She is so excited for me. I was actually surprised she didn’t cry. Overall though, she’s just happy for me and excited for the chance I get to play for such a great program."
Green, who is not LDS, said the coaching staff was looking for a non-LDS player because they are losing two signal-callers to two-year missions this summer.
"Tanner Mangum and Alex Kuresa are both leaving, so they wanted to find someone to sorta bridge the gap in their roster," Green said. "They are going to give me every chance to earn playing time and I’m going to keep working hard to show them I’m ready."
Speaking of working hard, Green has been a mainstay at the Barton Camps since his sophomore season at Kings.
As a junior this past season, Green flashed his outstanding potential completing over 70% of his passes for 2,500 yards and 40 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. He also rushed for 400 yards and four more scores, so he isn’t player who will be a statue when he drops back.
"My preference is to make plays with my arm, but if things break down and the defense isn’t aware of me, then I can make plays with my legs too," Green noted.
Green had planned to throw for Washington later this week at their Rising Stars Camp, but he noted that he won’t be doing that now.
In addition to his offer from BYU, Green was hearing quite a bit from schools like Washington and Washington State among others.
Green is now the fourth quarterback from the state of Washington to commit to an FBS school. Skyline’s Max Browne (USC), Bellarmine Prep’s Sefo Liufau (Colorado) and Eisenhower’s Kolney Cassel (SMU) are the others.
