Carrying on the family name at a school is always something a legacy recruit has to consider, and recently Skyline (Sammamish, Wa.) LB Peyton Pelluer informed Washington State head coach Mike Leach that he wanted to keep the Pelluer legacy going and committed to the Cougars over offers from Wyoming, Arizona State and Colorado.
"I was just real comfortable with the whole situation there at Washington State," Pelluer told Northwest Elite Index shortly after going public with his decision. "I really like coach (Jeff) Choate and coach (Eric) Russell and coach (Mike) Leach. I just wasn’t willing to wait any longer and I figured it was time there was another Coug in our family."
Pelluer’s father Scott, played for Washington State in the late 70’s, while older brother Cooper currently plays for cross-state rival Washington.
"We’re a split household now for sure," Peyton said with a bit of a laugh. "Actually, my whole family is really excited for me. They are excited that I am done with this process and that I can focus on my schoolwork and my senior year."
At 6’2" and weighing in at nearly 230 pounds, Pelluer already has the size necessary to be a contributor early in his career out on the Palouse, and then when you factor in his productivity — over 300 tackles the past two seasons — it’s obvious he has the speed and instincts to be a tackling-machine for the Cougars.
"The coaches were really excited I committed and we just want to get things going over at Washington State," Pelluer said. "I’m going to work really hard and be ready to go the moment I get there. I’m excited. I can’t wait."
Pelluer is now the sixth known commitment to Washington State whose list also includes the likes of Eastside Catholic CB Markell Sanders and Wenatchee OL Cody O’Connell, two in-staters who have also pledged to the Cougs.
