(Trevonn Russell 5-11 208 Jr. LB 2014′ ) Lindbergh HS |
As we at Northwest Elite Index went on our combine tour during the months of April and May, we got a look at a lot of underclassmen and one that really popped out to us was Lindbergh (Renton, Wa.) LB Trevonn Russell, a 2014 prospect who is just starting to emerge in recruiting circles.
During the event at the Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver, Wa., Russell put on a showace of his talents including good size for a young man his age — 5’11", 208 pounds — as well as a solid understanding of technique, the ability to learn quickly and an aggressive style that really demanded a lot of the prospects he was matched up with.
As a sophomore this past fall Russell was solid, starting every game and posting 70 tackles and two sacks from his middle linebacker spot. This fall he’ll move outside to take advantage of his speed and athleticism.
"I love being on the strongside because that’s the side the tight end is on usually and that allows me to drop back into coverage," Russell said recently. "I feel really comfortable in coverage and my reading and reacting are getting better. Now I just want to get stronger and work on my speed, and that’s what I’ve been doing a lot of this offseason."
Besides being a stud on the football field, Russell is also a star on the wrestling mat where he made regionals in the 195-pound class and in track where he competed well in the discus and shot.
As far as camps are concerned, Russell has already taken in the NFTC at Oregon this past weekend and hopes to hit the Washington Fundamentals Camp later this month, and the Barton Elite Showcase event on June 30th at the University of Washington as well.
"I just like to get out and compete," Russell noted. "It’s why we all play this game, so it’s exciting to get out and see the best players in the state."
We will have more on Russell in the coming weeks and months and hope to get a good look at him this fall as he takes the field with his team.
