(Johnny Ragin 6-2 210 Jr HBack/LB) Wilsonville |
Just recently we reported on Wilsonville’s Johnny Ragin (6-2 205 Jr. HB/LB) garnering the top NIKE SPARQ score among 600 kids at Tigard HS. As impressive as this was, Ragin followed that up with a big time day at the NIKE NFTC at the University of Oregon where he earned MVP honors as a linebacker against some very talented competition from around the region.
Ragin’s crazy weekend just continued to get better when he called and gave us the good news, " This last wekend was surreal, everything has been falling into place and Im so greatful that all the work I have been putting in has been paying off". He continued, "At the NFTC in Eugene I came out and played my game and did all I could to show the coaches and trainers why I was the best LB there.. When Coach Lester Towns told me I had an offer, I was beyond grateful".
After maybe the greatest weekend of his life Ragin didn’t slow up one bit. He hit camp the camp circuit hard and showed everyone at BYU what he was capable of. Our very own Taylor Barton is out in Provo visiting campus on our college tour, and was happy to see Johnny start to get some of the love he deserves, " He’s just so deserving and its great to see him finally reaping the rewards.. Johnny has a very bright future, and he is far from done when it comes to schools offering".
While at BYU Johnny chimed in on the camp and his new offer, " I had a great time down at BYU’s Junior Day, there was great competition and I definitely learned a lot as well". He continued, " Camp went great, and when Coach Mendenhall and Coach Poppinga told me I had an offer to come play for them I was overjoyed".
Ragin’s a well spoken kid with almost every intangible you could ask for. His 4.0 GPA only begins to describe what type of student athlete he is. In leaving the camp he says, "BYU’s a great place, with an awesome coaching staff and Im looking forward to getting back there some time in the near future".
We will continue to keep you updated on all of Ragin’s accomplishments. All of us at NEI and Barton Football are proud to have him representing our community and football academy.
