(Marquin Russell 6-1 185 Jr. WR) Lakes HS |
While his teammate, has gotten most of the recruiting hype so far this spring, Lakes (Lakewood, Wa.) WR Marquin Russell has quietly been working hard on perfecting his craft. The talented wideout has been hard at work on his route-running, explosiveness and coverage recognition and as he finishes up his junior year, he recently received two offers and spoke with Northwest Elite Index to update us on things…
"I have offers from Army and Idaho," Russell said. "Army had been recriuting me for a while and my dad is in the military, so I’ve sorta been aware of all the stuff I needed to do in order to go there. They told my coach (Dave Miller) they wanted to offer me and he told me to expect something soon, and then I talked to them and they said they were offering me because they liked what I can do on the field and also my character.
"Idaho came in real recently, probably in the last week and they are a school I’m really looking at because it’s sorta close and my family could still see me play. They are also building a good program there, so they are a school I want to look at a little harder now. Coach (Robb) Akey is a great guy and really fun to talk to. He’s so energetic, it was great to talk to him and to get an offer from him."
With outstanding speed and great body control, Russell, who is 6’0", 183 pounds, has the skills necessary to play at the Pac 12 level even though he didn’t put up huge numbers as a junior this past fall (10 receptions for 322 yards and five touchdowns).
Russell said he plans to attend camp at Idaho and his team camp at Central Washington.
"I’m still wide open to everyone," Russell noted. "I’m just working hard this summer. I’m catching a lot of passes and also working a lot on my speed and explosiveness. It’s hard to believe I’ve only got one year of high school left. I’m excited, I want to make it the best I can."
In addition to those camps Russell said he also plans to attend the Barton Camp on June 30th at the University of Washington.
