(Michael Cummings 6-1 230 Jr. LB Meadowdale HS) |
At Sunday’s Barton Combine at Issaquah High School, Meadowdale LB Michael Cummings came to show what he could do and he did just that. In testing and during the one-one-ones and 7-on-7’s, he showed plenty of the skills that have coach Mark Stewart raving about his abilities.
“I think Michael is a really underrated guy,” Stewart told Northwest Elite Index earlier this spring. “He’s smart and he’s really aggressive. I think he could easily play at (an FBS) program somewhere, possibly a mid-major, but he’s not getting a lot of attention right now.”
The first thing you notice about Cummings is his outstanding frame. He measures in at 6’2″ and weighed in at over 230 pounds. He’s ripped and while he’s not a big time speed guy, he pulls the trigger to get after the ball-carrier and is a sure-tackler when he arrives at the ball.
He looks like an in-between the tackles type who would be a big-thumper at the next level. He totaled over 70 tackles and posted five sacks last season.
“This year I’ve been working a lot on my testing and my speed and agility,” Cumming said breathlessly after a drill. “I really want to get faster. I feel confident in my abilities as a tackler and I’m getting stronger all the time, but I want to get faster and show teams I can make plays almost anywhere.”
On the recruiting front, Cummings has yet to haul in an offer, but he’s getting interest from schools across the region and hopes to make some camps this spring to show coaches what he can do.
“I’m looking at possibly visitng a few schools, but I’m not really sure right now which ones I will go to,” Cummings noted. “I know that I want to get out to camps and compete against other guys on a regular basis, so we’ll see.
“I love getting out to camps and competing against top guys like this. I’m headed to a couple of the Husky (Washington) camps because it’s so close to where I live. Other than that, I’m still working on my schedule.”
We will have more in the future on Cummings as he continues to work his way through the recruiting process.
