After seeing and hearing from several schools during the spring, Wenatchee OL Cody O’Connell decided he’d let the recruiting process run its course and he decided to commit to Washington State head coach Mike Leach in person.
“I actually drove up there today and told them,” a happy O’Connell told Northwest Elite Index. “They seemed really excited about me committing. I’m just really relieved to be done.”
When asked what it was that made him decide to end the process before the summer, O’Connell was matter of fact in his assessment of things.
“I loved the school, I loved the coaches, I loved the program and I after I thought about it I was like ‘why wait?’,” O’Connell said. “They haven’t told me where they see me, so I’m going to say tackle is where I’ll play, but I just want to play as early as possible so I’m open to playing where they see me fitting the best.”
Besides his offer from the Cougars, O’Connell also had an offer from Idaho and was getting interest from schools across the region including Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Eastern Washington, along with UCLA, Arizona State and Arizona.

Taylor Barton Might sound crazy to say a kid who was offered and just committed to a Pac 12 school is underrated, but that’s the truth. Cody is the REAL DEAL! WSU is on the right track, props to Leach and company.
