Cade Smith 6-0 165 Fr. QB West Salem |
Freshman QB Cade Smith (6-0 165 Fr. QB) out of West Salem did what a very small percentage of athletes ever do and get his first D1 offer. Very few athletes at any age ever come close to obtaining a division one scholarship, much a less a kid thats 15 years old, but if there was anyone that could handle such a thing it’s Cade.
As most know Cade’s brother Brett is the starting QB at Wyoming, leading them to a bowl game while earning Freshman All American Honors his first season as a Cowboy. Smith was Oregon’s HS Gatorade Player of the Year in 2010 and lead the entire nation this past season in Total Offense among freshman.
The Cowboys landed a gem in Brett and one can only imagine how good the young Cade could be. NEI, not surprisingly, has had Cade ranked the top freshman QB in Oregon, and have enjoyed working with him at our elite events. He’s usually the youngest guy there and easily one of the most talented. Working with the top QB coach in the country in Taylor Barton will only make his ceiling that much more limitless.
” I just feel very blessed and I think its something that’s going to make me work harder”, Cade said, ” I want to go out and show people as a Varsity sophomore quarterback that Im deserving of an offer, and it wasn’t just because of my brother”.
Lip service aside, you will not find much better people then the Smith family, as they are about as humble as they come. His father Kevin played for the University of Oregon, and Brett put up staggering numbers while at West Salem throwing for 5064 career yards with 55 Tds, and rushing for another 2324 yards and 44 Tds.
Cade embraces the challenges that lie ahead of him, and will be a kid that won’t ever quit trying to get better. ” I just came from the field and was throwing to my receivers, and I really like how my guys look”. West Salem is the traditional power out of the Valley, led by one of the top high school coaches in the country in Shawn Stanley.
Stanley much like the Smith’s is a super humble individual, and is an NEI favorite and loved within the community. These two together for the next three years is a treat for everyone that gets to be a part of watching Titan Football.
Wyoming is one of the top up and coming college football programs in the country, and NEI appreciate’s the relationship that we have with such a fine coaching staff. The Cowboys first saw Cade watching NEI TV, something we have received a tremendous amount of support from. Having all of the Top athletes together like we do, allows us to film and breakdown different kids as the best train against the best.
We will continue to follow Cade, West Salem, and the Wyoming Cowboys as all they are all bright spots in this football world.
