Mount Hood Conference Player of the Year Devauntae Hoffman (5-8 180 Jr RB/DB) is returning next season, and he should be one of the top backs in the State of Oregon. His performance at our most recent elite event was confirmation to all of us how special this kid could be.
Hoffman is ranked as one of the Top 25 players in the state, and this past season he took the conference by storm going for over 2000 all purpose yards and 20+ Tds. The kid has been kind of a local celebrity for awhile now earning first team all league honors as a sophomore, and all state honors this past season.
Devauntae is an extremely humble kid and focused in every day life. He holds a 3.0 GPA, and also plays Varsity basketball and Track where he runs the 100, 200, and 4 x 100 for his Gophers.
Hoffman is focused on helping his (7-3) team from a year ago get a conference title in 2012. Its a tall order with a ridiculously talented Central Catholic team coming back but Devauntae says, ” we have most of our defensive starters back, and I really like my guys, I think we will do very well”.
He is in the weight room almost daily grinding with teammates and thinking of the future. ” I want to win first and foremost, but Ive always dreamed of playing D1 ball at some level so that remains a personal goal”.
The thing separates Hoffman from many others is his character. He thinks of others first mentioning how talented fellow running back Micah Tolai (5-8 165 Jr. RB) is, ” He’s kind of under the radar right now, but I can speak to how talented he is”.
To put this all into perspective the Gophers will go as far as Devauntae Hoffman takes them. He will be 3 year first team all league kid, and possibly a two time conference Player of the Year. Gresham hasn’t had a kid this talented in a long time and he’s even a better person. We will look forward to following Hoffman’s career and think he’s got some special days ahead.
