One of the Nation’s most high profile teams in Bellevue has had a busy week. Breaking news has come with the commitment of Tyler Hasty (5-11 175 ATH) to Oregon St and sophomore sensation Bishard Baker’s (5-11 180 RB) offer to UCLA. Baker is NEI’S #1 recruit for the class of 2014, so you can imagine he will have plenty of additional offers before he is done. Here is another Bellevue standout that is committing…
Kyle Bentz, a high-motor talent along the 3A State Champion Bellevue Wolverines’ defensive line has made a decision on where he will play his college football.
“I committed to the University of San Diego,” Bentz told Northwest Elite Index recently. “They really liked my speed and my aggression and they felt I would be a good fit in their system.”
In addition to the offer from the Toreros, Bentz was getting attention from schools like Chapman, Eastern Washington and Central Washington but when he considered everything he decided the life in southern California suited him just fine.
“They have a great school there and the program is really good,” Bentz said. “I just wanted to play football in college and when the offer came in, I just felt like I had the right place. The coaches were great and I love the city too.”
This past season, Bentz played both ways for the Wolverines and garnered All-Kingco 3A honors from his defensive end position after posting 51 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, four sacks, three quarterback pressures and one pass breakup.
“I have a good motor and I get off the ball well,” Bentz said. “I know I need to get bigger since I’m 6’2, 220 pounds right now, so that is going to be a big thing for me — getting bigger.
“I am also trying to get stronger. I have good numbers (295-pund bench, 400-pound squat), but obviously I need to get stronger and faster and all that stuff.”
Bentz will sign a letter-of-intent on February 1st and enroll at USD in the summer.
