One of the best football players in the entire Northwest, Sam McCaskill (6-3 240 DE/C) out of Sheldon, got some big news last night getting offered by Oregon St. The Beavers offered the state leader in Sacks (15) a full ride asking him to come in and gray shirt. The Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year had offers from Portland St and Montana but was definitely excited about the Pac 12 opportunity.
Letting us know immediately Sam sent a message to Taylor Barton that read, “Thank you so much for everything you have done, you are a miracle worker”. Barton has been a huge advocate of McCaskill talking to similar D1 schools on a regular basis about his upside.
Sam’s one of the nicest tough kids you are ever going to meet. You wonder how a kid so peaceful could be such an assassin on the field but he is relentless. He was NEI’s Defensive Player of the Year for the State of Oregon, and lead his Irish to a (24-2) record, 2 league titles, and a state championship appearance over the last two seasons. His defense lead the state in fewest points allowed during the regular season, and he was also named first team all state on both sides of the ball by The Oregonian.
We at NEI didn’t see a better defensive player all year long, and we think he would be a steal for the Beavers or any other school that wanted to capitalize on this local talent. As always we will be first to update you on all breaking news as it comes.
