He is currently the top ranked Cornerback in the State of Washington and Kahlil Dawson (5-9 165 Jr) is showing no signs up letting as we progress into 2012. The silky smooth athlete from Graham- Kapowsin is a 1st team all league kid with unique body control and outstanding quicks. He’s not going to intimidate you with his initial size, but he’s actually extremely tough and aggresive.
” I try to be a ball hawk and if they want to throw the ball my away I’m going to challenge it”, Dawson says. Teams shied away from throwing to his side on most occasions but he still accounted for 2 interceptions, and a phenomenal 14 pass break ups. Kahlil projects as a D1 corner, but can be the go go to guy on offense. On the season he accounted for 750 all purpose yards and 5 Tds offensively. He can play any skill position including quarterback which makes him even more valuable.
“I don’t care if I get the ball on offense or what Im called to do on defense I just want to win”. Graham Kapowsin went (5-5) last season but have much loftier goals coming back in 2012. ” We want to make a run at the Dome and we feel like we have the guys to do it”, Kahlil said.
Veteran QB Drew Austin will be graduating, but there will be a lot of young talent coming back that has won in the past. Ulu Porter (6-1 215 OL/DL Jr) is undersized for the position but an absolute beast. Dawson says, ” Ulu is a gamer and can bang with the best of them, he has no quit in him”. Porter will be called on to lead up front.
Porter says ” I want to be a positive leader next year and make a playoff run, because we have the talent coming back to do it”. He continued, ” with Kahlil we have a weapon on O and D, and Micayel McKechnie (5-11 205 RB/LB Jr.) and Dylan Campbell (5-11 175 WR/FS Jr.) are both stand outs at their respective positions”.
We knew Kahlil Dawson was going to be a special football player at a young age, and this will be the most important year of his life. We will look forward to covering him on the NEI/Barton Tour over the spring and summer, and expect to see all of these GK Eagles do big things moving forward.
