Desmond Young (5-10 175 Jr RB/DB) is the type of kid that’s going to be on a lot of collegiate radars going into 2012. He was a first team all league back in 2011 and is considered one of the top juniors in the state of Washington. The Edmonds- Woodway standout just got better in a season that saw the Warriors win 6 of there 8 last games and finish (6-5) after a tough 0-3 start.
Young is one of the fastest kids in Washington clocking a high 4.4 or low 4.5 electronic 40 yard dash. He accumulated over 1600 all purpose yards (1417 rushing), and 20 Touchdowns on the year while averaging 8.4 yards a carry. He was recently just ranked our #23 overall recruit on the Washington Top 140 for the class of 2013.
Desmond says ” Im playing basketball right now, but still getting in the weight room 3 to 4 times a week and working hard”. He is a multi sport talent with a 37 inch vertical, all the more proving that he has the athletic ability to play at the D1 level. The question becomes at what position? D1 coaches will look at his size as the one factor that might count against him, so he understands that he must have his DB skills in tact if he wants to play at the highest level.
Coaches will want to see that he can play on either side of the ball giving them multiple options if they are to offer him a scholarship. ” I am working hard on my grades (2.9) and plan on training all off season once basketball is over”. Young is just another one of the top athletes in the Northwest that will be on the NEI/Barton tour over the spring and summer. He has heard from Oregon St and Eastern Washington, but its still very early and he will have plenty of time this off season to go over his options. ” My dream is to play D1 football and I want to thank my mother who has been my biggest supporter”.
Its going to be a big year for Edmonds- Woodway in 2012, and Young has all the faith in the world in his teammates. ” I think next season we got a shot and Im looking forward to playing with all the guys we got coming back”. We wish Desmond continued success and will update you on all of his future achievements.
