Now that the off season is officially hear you can plan on finding out about all new commits and scholarships offers first at NEI. Today two of Oregon’s top recruits received there first in what will most likely be many scholarship offers . Doug Brenner (6-3 260 Jr FB/DL) and Andrew Kirkland (6-5 295 Jr OL) of Jesuit are considered two of the top recruits in the entire region, with Brenner ranked #4 and Kirkland #13 overall on NEI’s top 140 for the class of 2013.
Both athletes have been invited to the Army All American Combine in San Antonio in early January where they will get a chance to compete against some of the other top athletes in the country. Brenner played Varsity football as a freshman and has abnormal size and strength. Doug was his usual humble self when asked how he felt about his first offer, “I’m very excited , i’m going to be training all winter and not playing basketball while working on my speed and agility”. Brenner has been an all league athlete for the past two seasons and head coach Ken Potter says it accurately when he references his 2nd team all league selection from 2010, “ya second team all league, first team all american”.
Kirkland echoed some of the same comments, “I got a note in the middle of class saying that I was wanted in the office, and it was a pleasant surprise to hear from the coaches”. Andrew was a second team all league offensive lineman and will be teaming with Max Rich (6-7 280 Jr OL/DL) and Dominic Baldocchi (6-3 260 Jr OL/DL) to form one of the most dominant O lines in the country in 2012.
Both of these athletes project at the D1 level and should have a plethora of schools courting them over the next year. The Jesuit program has been built on success, but also unquestioned class and character that both of these kids possess. We look forward to working with Brenner and Kirkland over the next year, and will be updating you whenever the next offer comes in.
