WILSONVILLE- If you are going to beat Wilsonville it most likely won’t be done through the air. The Wildcats bring back a secondary with experience. Jayden Cooper (5-9 165 DB Sr.), the state leader in picks (8) among all classifications will always be in the mix. 1st team all league safety Grant Mcneil (6-1 180 S Sr.) and honorable mention DB Nick Highberger (6-2 190 DB Jr.) round out a trio of athletes that will pose problems for opposing QB’s.
This is a team that could go either way. They have a quality youth program that gives the school a chance every year. Two All League lineman also return in Curran Gahan (6-4 245 DL/OL Sr.) and Andrew Walls (6-4 280 OL/DL Sr.). The Wildcats lose their featured backs and QB Brennan Wolvert from a year ago so it will be interesting to see how the defense responds.
Head Coach Adam Guenther feels good about what he has seen thus far, but he understands that they will have to be on their (A) game to win the NWOC. Johnny Ragin (6-1 195 TE/LB Jr.) has had an outstanding spring and summer and looks to be one of the top up and coming juniors. Sione Kauhi (6-6 235 TE/DE Sr.) returns as one of the top tight ends in the state after a earning all league honors on both sides of the ball. Offensively he had an outstanding junior year hauling in 21 catches, for 430 yards and 6 Touchdowns.
Two other athletes you can expect to contribute will be Tanner Shipley (6-1 185 WR Jr.) and Ryan Walsh (5-10 180 RB/CB Jr.). Both kids played well as sophomores and have bright futures in the Wildcats program.
